We have a full 16 players for the store champs. I will be updating coverage between rounds. Click Read More to see the round by round coverage.

Round 1:

We see alot of bad matches. Bruce Griffin rounds out the 16 players. I hope he does well, as he's a pleasure to play. Steve learns that the Obelisk of Alara can go the distance.

Round 2:

Everyone get's their store champs card. Steve went from table 16 to table 1 and is pared against a much easier deck seemingly. Reminder: check out how many tokens are on your Ajani Vengeant. It will make a difference. At the bottom of the winners table is mono-white battling w/r kithkin. Dominic's Scepter of Fugue is applying alot of pressure to Charlie's 5 Color control. Man, 5C is everywhere. Mistbind Clique seems like it's going to be slowing a game out ago. Though apparently Charlie's ability to draw three Cryptic Commands in a row wins it out for him.

Round 3:

Top tables give a sign of the game's to come. Steve vs Jed and Babcock vs Tyler. Props to those who dids'nt just drop after the 0-2 record after round 2. Store champs is meant to be a way to help people step up their game a bit and maybe finally make the trip to a PTQ or GP eventually. Robert's red burn deck faces it's mortal enemy, the Wall of Reverence. Figures of Destiny are nicely shut off by Pithing Needles. It's kind of amazing. Dominic can not catch a break. Turn two his Bitterblossom hits a Squall Line. The turn after, Christine's Thoughtseize reveals his Thoughtsieze and two lands. Sad days.

Round 4:

Round 4 is really round 3, due to a bug in the software. The entire top table agrees to draw to ensure that they make the cut to the top eight. I think people know my opinion of IDs.  This leaves me rather little to comment on. So instead, I shall do a song and dance. *insert song and dance*

Playoffs:

Round 1: *saw provides background noise*

Jed vs. Jim: Burn vs elves. This is going to be a very quick match.  Jed is victorious.

Andy vs. Babcock: Esper-lark on Tokens.  Dubs Glorious anthem seems to make for a bad day. Game three, Babcock is starved for land and can't draw the third mana to come out harder and faster than he can.

Moose vs. Charlie: Five Color on Five color. This should hopefully not take all night. In Response to Wrath of God, I play a Volcanic Fallout. Game two, Charlie mulls to three. Ouch. Though his talent for drawing card lets him pull it out forcing the game three. Good job Charlie! Game three is alot tighter and quicker, but, the lack of forcing the Needle means that Moose is able to get the win.

Tyler vs. Jessie: RW-Lark vs 5 Color control. A Ranger of Eos comes out from under a Windbrisk Heights, fetching up his favorite companions, Figures of Destiny. Tyler did not like that and it proved to be his undoing.

No Faeries in the top 8. This is where the top of the Cedar Rapids Magic players can have the best test of their skills in the area.

Round 2:

Jed vs. Andy: Alot of burn is being thrown in Andy's face. Can his deck handle all of the burning. Game one, it clearly can not. Game two is also looking rough, despite having a Forge-tender. Repeated punchs to the face is bad beats.  Forge-tender sacs self to prevent a lethal Incinerate.

Moose vs. Jessie: This is one of the few games where Moose doesn't see the first turn figure, but is facing R/W.  Though Jessie can't draw anything relevant to save him and loses game one. Though in the second game, he draws nothing but threats and Moose just draws land.

Finals:

Andy vs. Moose: Managed to eek out the first game win, then both agreed to the prize split. Moose, mostly, defended the honor of the store. If ti was fully played out, it would have been a very long 5C on 5C (homebrew) match.
